This series explores unintended lines and shapes formed in paving stones, sometimes by years of use, sometimes from sudden moments of misuse. People treading in more or less the same spot, wearing down and weakening a slab over time; or perhaps a heavy load dropped suddenly, creating a breach and rupture through the stone. Meticulous cracks appear, forming lines and fissures that move involuntarily but persistently through the paving slab. An image can be indicated, a caricature, a playful line, the pencil-like feel of some sort of sketch. They are accidents, moments of damage marring the surface, blemishes and scars which invite reflection but are often unseen, unnoticed or ignored.

These are scanned images from 120mm black & white negatives.
